OMD. 2019 year of the PIG, celebration for the Chinese New Year begins on February 5, the day of the new moon, and ends 15 days later during the full moon. Traditionally, these days are celebrated as days of renewal, reunion and thanksgiving. Because the ancient Chinese developed a system that implements leap days, each Chinese New Year varies from our western calendar, falling somewhere between January and February. This date is usually on the second but sometimes third new moon following the Winter Solstice. It's the Lunar New Year and the Chinese Year of the Pig, known as the Boar. The Pig is part of the 12-year-cycle of animals that make up the Chinese zodiac. These interact with the five elements: wood, metal, fire, water and earth. 2019 Chinese Horoscope year of the Earth Pig, the twelveth of the 12-year cycle of animals, taking over from the year of the Dog.
